Scenario Briefing: The Battle of Honnecourt - While the main French army was invading Catalonia, the Spanish general Melo took the opportunity to launch an attack from the Spanish Netherlands to retake territory lost in 1640. After capturing Lens and La Bassee, Melo decide to attack the smaller French army under de Guiche, which was in a defensive position at Honnecourt sur Escaut. After an artillery barrage to soften up the defenders, the Spanish left wing under Beck attacked the enemy position. The French position finally collapsed after 7 hours of fighting.
