Scenario Briefing: Second Battle of Breitenfeld - After lifting the siege of Glogau, the Swedish general Torstensson had advanced aggressively towards Buntzlau in late September, despite being outnumbered by the enemy. Having secured this town, Torstensson laid siege to the Saxon city of Leipzig, ordering Konigsmarck's raiding detachment to rejoin his army in preparation for a potential battle. Meanwhile, the Imperialists had crossed the Elbe at Dresden and were advancing towards Leipzig. Torstensson promptly deployed his army to block their advance and, by nightfall on 1st November, the two sides had encamped in close proximity at Breitenfeld, but at right angles to the old battlefield of 1631 Although Piccolomini had been opposed to risking an open battle, the Imperial council of war ignored his advice and both armies advanced at dawn before the exact deployment of the enemy was known. This 16 turn scenario starts at 10am with the armies already deployed and the battle about to begin.
