Scenario Briefing: The twenty year truce after the Battle of Saint Gotthard came to an abrupt end in the spring of 1683 when the Ottoman Empire decided to renew their war on the Danube Basin with the Holy Roman Empire. The war was not unexpected in Vienna, but they did not anticipate that the Ottomans would go straight for the grand prize: Vienna itself. The city was encircled on July 14, and the Ottomans were confident that it would soon fall.

The Empire had signed a treaty of alliance against the Ottomans with the Kingdom of Poland, but the Polish forces were unable to move out until the target of the Ottoman campaign was clear. In the meantime, Imperial envoys gathered supporting forces from around the Empire.

By early September, the situation in the city was growing desparate, with the city wall nearly ready to succumb to the Ottoman sappers. However, the city would never face the deadly assault as the rescue force arrived:the combined forces of the House of Hapsburg, several Imperial Princes and the famed winged hussars of Poland. Early on the morning of September 12, they launched their assault to relive the city.

Please read the notes for more information on the armies and campaign.

Note: This version of the battle has extensive fixed troops. Both the Ottomans besieging the city are fixed, as well as the Tartars off the south flank. The Imperial troops inside Vienna have been removed for this version as they are not the central focus of the scenario. The "unfixed" version has them included.

Note: Can be played as either side against the AI or Head-to-Head.
