Date: 11 August 1744 - Size: Medium - Location: Velletri, Papal States
Scenario Briefing: Alternate - After two months of stalemate outside Velletri, Austrian commander Lobkowitz elected to break the deadlock with a bold stroke. FML Browne, with a picked force of cavalry and infantry, made an overnight march to attack Velletri from the south. With the element of surprise, it was hoped that Carlo III, the Bourbon King of Naples, might be captured in his quarters.
Meanwhile, a diversionary attack and a further demonstration, both directed against the Spanish outposts on Monte Artimisio, would hopefully draw off the enemy's attention and prevent an effective response.
In reality, Browne's troops inflicted heavy losses but failed to capture the king and were eventually obliged to withdraw. this extended scenario gives the Austrians the option to commit the rest of their troops, or the Spanish to organize the counter-offensive that they neglected to stage historically.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
Intended to be played as the Pragmatic Alliance against the Anti-Pragmatic forces (Naples) AI, but can be played from either side or Head-to-Head.
