Date: 30 September 1744 - Size: Medium - Location: Near Cuneo, Piedmont
Scenario Briefing: Historical - The citadel of Cuneo, or Coni, was besieged by a Franco-Spanish army under the Prince de Conti. The Sardinian monarch, Carlo Emanuele III, sought to draw the besieging army into a pitched battle and thereby distract their attention while the garrison sortied to attack the siege works and communications were opened up to allow the removal of wounded and the delivery of supplies. Although Carlo Emanuele's army was unable to capture the Franco-Spanish defensive position at Madonna dell'Olmo - rendering the field battle a Sardinian defeat or, at best, a bloody draw - the operation was in other respects successful. This rendered it impossible for the Franco-Spanish to complete their siege operations before the winter closed in, and Conti was shortly obliged to withdraw his army before the first snowfall in the Alps prevented him from doing so.
This scenario covers both the battle between the field army and the operations around the fortress.
Rules: [Default]
Intended to be played as the Anti-Pragmatic forces against the Pragmatic Alliance AI, but can be played from either side or Head-to-Head.
