The 1st Battle of Landeshut (the 2nd and 3rd were in the Seven Years War) was a major clash of outposts during the early stages of the campaign that ended at Hohenfriedberg. The Austro-Saxons under Charles of Lorraine sought to break through into Silesia by way of the Landeshut pass, with an advance-guard under Nádasdy sent to clear the way. Landeshut was held by a force of grenadiers, jager, and hussars, under Winterfeldt, part of a larger corps under du Moulin.
In a see-sawing action, Winterfeldt, reinforced by Stille's cavalry brigade, checked the Austrian advance and obliged Nádasdy to withdraw - for this, he was rewarded by a promotion to Generalmajor at the young age of 38. Frederick, however, had already decided to abandon the pass and allow the allies to advance onto the Silesian plain where he could fight on more advantageous terms, and the Prussians subsequently withdrew from the position.
This scenario begins at 6.00, with the outposts of the two sides in contact and the rest of the Austrian forces still moving up.
