Date: 9 July 1745 - Size: Small - Location: Mella, Austrian Netherlands

Scenario Briefing: Alternate - Acting on the Duke of Cumberland's orders to assist the garrison of Ghent which was under threat from the French, the Austrian FML von Moltke set out from Alost with three British infantry battalions and a mixture of British, Austrian, and Dutch cavalry.

Delayed by an earlier encounter with French light troops under Grassin, his lead elements reached Melle around 7:00pm on 9 July, where they ran into part of the French covering forces under du Chaila. Moltke was able to fight his way through with his leading troops, but the remainder - under the British Brigadier General Bligh - had to retreat, both portions of the allied force having suffered heavy casualties.

In this alternative scenario, it is assumed that rather than letting himself be bypassed, the Comte de Grassin falls back on the French camp with his light troops - thus, the allies arrive on the field as a single body, but the French are aware of their approach.
