Date: 18 December 1745 - Size: Small - Location: Near Clifton, England
Scenario Briefing: Variant - The last battle to take place on English soil, the fight at Clifton saw a Jacobite rearguard under Lord George Murray check the pursuing forces of the Duke of Cumberland. Short of infantry - a thousand or so volunteers mounted on requisitioned horses never made it into action - Cumberland was obliged to dismount a portion of his dragoons to try and drive the highlanders from Clifton village while his cavalry worked around their flanks. Murray's rearguard repulsed the dragoons and melted away into the night before Cumberland's cavalry could cut them off.
In this variant it is assumed that Charles elected to turn and try and crush Cumberland's pursuit force, which, in partial compensation, has the infantry volunteers available from the outset.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
Intended to be played as the Pragmatic Alliance forces against the Anti-Pragmatic AI, but can be played from either side or Head-to-Head.
