Scenario Briefing: Variant - The last battle to take place on English soil, the fight at Clifton saw a Jacobite rearguard under Lord George Murray check the pursuing forces of the Duke of Cumberland. Short of infantry - a thousand or so volunteers mounted on requisitioned horses never made it into action - Cumberland was obliged to dismount a portion of his dragoons to try and drive the highlanders from Clifton village while his cavalry worked around their flanks. Murray's rearguard repulsed the dragoons and melted away into the night before Cumberland's cavalry could cut them off.

In this variant the possibility exists of the Government mounted infantry becoming available, and for the Jacobites the option of the Athole Brigade, covering the Eamont Bridge, becoming available to reinforce Murray at Clifton.
