Scenario Briefing: Hypothetical - The night before the Battle of Culloden, the Jacobite Army sought to mount an audacious night attack on the Government encampment at Nairn, which they hoped to find in disorder as the Government forces celebrated the Duke of Cumberland's birthday.

Delayed in the dark, the attacking columns lost their cohesion and Charles' generals called the plan off. Abandoning the attack, the Jacobite army withdrew to its destiny on Drummossie Muir.

This scenario tests what might have happened had the Jacobites pressed on - could the Jacobites have pulled off this coup, or would the Government forces have found their opponents strung out and vulnerable come daybreak? Government forces start disordered, reflecting the need for regiments to be roused from their tents and formed up for battle.
