Castalla 13 April 1813 - Securing the Biar defile had taken the French vital hours, so it was late afternoon by the time Suchet caught sight of the Anglo-Allied army deployed for battle. Since Harispe's column was still some miles to the rear, the attack was postponed until the following day. Outnumbered, Suchet decided to neutralize the enemy center and right wing by demonstrating with his cavalry and a portion of his foot, while launching his main assault against the weak Spanish troops on the left flank.
