Combat of Margalef 23 April 1810 - The Spanish general O'Donnell foolishly advanced to the relief of Lleida with his two divisions miles apart. When Ibarrola's lead division came in contact with the French it fell back to receive support from the other division but was closely pursued by the enemy and forced to make a stand at Margalef. Historically, the French cuirassiers quickly routed the Spanish cavalry and then fell on the flank of the infantry before it could form square. O'Donnell arrived with Pirez's division too late to prevent disaster. However, to give the Spanish a better fighting chance, Pirez's troops may arrive earlier than they did historically.
