Combat of Maya: 25 July 1813 - This lengthy scenario starts with the initial French attack and continues until reinforcements from the British 7th Division have arrived. Soult's plan to relieve Pamplona meant the recapture of the Maya pass that had been abandoned on 8 July. General d'Erlon with 21,000 men, positioned Maransin's division on the main road with orders to wait until Darmagnac's division - with Abbé's division in reserve - could advance from Espelette and secure the eastern end of the ridge. Meanwhile, Stewart had been distracted by the gunfire of a French diversionary attack and had ridden south to Aldudes, leaving the British 2nd Division leaderless. Only the two British brigades of 2nd Division were defending the Maya pass, since the Portuguese brigade was deployed farther south at Izpegui Pass. However, the 7th Division was nearby and should arrive to assist the British defenders towards the end of the battle.
