San Marcial 31 August 1813: Soult attempts to relieve San Sebastian - Variant scenario using gun sections, 10 minute turns and an alternative pdt. Modelling his assault against the Bidassoa position on Fregeville's 1794 plan of attack, Soult decides to combine a direct frontal assault with a powerful outflanking move near Vera. However, aware of Soult's troop movements, Wellington places four concealed British brigades at Irun, while Spanish troops defend the San Marcial Heights. The fords upstream would be guarded by Portuguese troops with Cole's 4th Division and Spaniards in support. The Light Division would be deployed at Vera de Bidassoa and Lesaka. NB: This scenario does not cover Allied diversionary attacks by Dalhousie's 7th Division and Madden's Portuguese at Zugarramurdi and Urdax, but there is the likelihood that Foy's division will be withdrawn to counter this threat before it sees any action.
