Assault on San Bartolome 17 July 1813 - After the failure of 8th Cacadores to storm San Bartolome on 15th, the defenses were pounded by artillery the following day in preparation for a fresh attack, this time not with a single battalion but the equivalent of three battalions. The French defenders of San Bartolome and the suburb of San Martin to the rear were almost two battalions strong - these would have to be driven back before preparations for attacking San Sebastian itself could be undertaken.
