Tudela 23 November 1808 - The Spanish general Castanos, having decided to defend the impractically extensive line between Tudela and Tarazona with merely 45,000 men, made a further blunder in failing to use his cavalry to keep an eye on the French line of approach. However, Lannes launched two costly frontal assaults and failed to take full advantage of the wide gap in the Spanish line, resulting in unnecessary losses and a less decisive French victory.
