Valls 25 February 1809 - Believing that the French were planning to march on Tarragona, Reding led his Spanish troops in a nocturnal forced-march to Valls, arriving at the Goy bridge at 6 a.m., encountering French vedettes who alerted Souham's division at Valls. By midday, the Spaniards had forced the outnumbered French back into Valls, but soon St Cyr arrived from El Pla with reinforcements, tricking Reding into falling back and fight a defensive battle. This gave the rest of the French army time to arrive on the battlefield during the course of the afternoon.
