7 May, 1941: Kptlt Kuppisch in U-94 was one of several boats to head to the North Atlantic in May. He reported a convoy south of Iceland on the 7th. It was the large convoy OB-318. Unbeknown to Kuppisch he was at the Mid Ocean Meeting Point and Escort Group 3 had just joined the convoy to take over from Escort Group 7. EG7 had left 5 corvettes and a sloop to ensure a smooth transition. There were 15 warships guarding the 40 merchants. Kuppisch dutifully reported the convoy's position and then went over to the attack that night.
