07 May, 1945: A signal was sent to the U-boats on 4 May 1945 ordering them to surrender. However, U-2336 did not receive the signal, or chose to ignore it. On the evening of 7 May, Kptlt Klusmeier found himself of the in the Firth of Forth on Scotland's East Coast. Operating submerged in a new electro-boat he made contact with the small local convoy EN-491. He maneuvered to attack and launched his two torpedoes. The first victim exploded and sunk instantly, the second lingered before slipping under the waves. These two ships were the last two ships sunk by German U-Boats in World War II. An hour later the war in Europe was officially over.
