16 March, 1941: U-110 had made two attacks on the night of March 15/16 and then shadowed to bring up other boats. The poor conditions and Allied air cover made that task difficult. U-37, U-99, U-74, and U-100 all were vectored in on the convoy. Of the five boats, three were able to maintain contact and get in position to attack. The destroyers kept the wolfpack at bay through the early evening, but then KrvKpt Kretchmer sailed boldly into the middle of the convoy and fired his eight remaining torpedoes.
