Escargot, 45 km NE of Reims, France: [Hypothetical; Best played as 4 player netgame] Towards the very end of Patton's famous drive across France, the German defenses began to stiffen. More and more frequently newly reconstructed German units raced tired American armored columns for key terrain. On the first day of September the lead elements of 3rd Army's famed "Heck in Big Green Steel Things" Armored Division collided with a kampfgruppe from the crack "Eva Braun" Panzer Division around the key crossroads town of Escargot. As fate would have it, these units were nearly identical in structure, capability and weaponry. This led to perhaps the most evenly matched battle in the Second World War. The Germans knew they were the only troops to go into battle wearing the prestigious "EB" band on their uniform. The Americans knew that as soon as the summer's pursuit battle grounded to a halt, they would have to go back to wearing ties and shaving. For both sides then, a victory at Escargot was essential.
