30 NOVEMBER 1939, ARTAHUHTA, FINLAND - RUSSIAN BORDER: General LB. Belyayev's 139th Rifle Division, with 20000 troops, 147 artillery pieces and 45 tanks, crossed the border at Artahuhta to advance Tolvajarvi. On the morning of 30 November, Captain Saikkonen and his 4th Cavalry Squadron was scattered all over the village; seeking shelter from the cold outside. At 08:00 they were alerted by artillery sounds coming from the border which was a few hundreds meters away to the east. It was apparent that border posts were under attack. Mounting immediately, Saikkonen and his squadron galloped to join the outnumbered border guards defending the post.

At first it was quite easy to overcome the Finnish border guards, but then their cavalry reinforcements turned out be a much tougher nut to crack. As a result the Red Army didn't make their breakthrough at the border and the scenario lasted its 20 turns with no regard to the optional ending option which was set to "on".

This is a fun one capturing all the drama of WW2. Russians start heavy and Finns are light but well positioned. Red Army has to be ready to take some (meaning lots!) losses in order to get the fight to the Finns. But it can be done, and then a race to the second line where there will be more desperate fighting!

Hard on the Russians to cover that much ground but it is still a fun scenario to play, lots of action.

I enjoyed this scenario. The Key for the Russians I believe is to keep moving and to bypass the Finn strong points. Figured this out when it was too late :)
