9 January, 1917
(Best played against a human opponent, or as British against
Turkish AI) Following the defeat at Romani, the Turkish VIII
Corps fell back into Palestine. The German commander, General
Kressenstein, favoured a complete withdrawal to the Hans Yonus-El
Hafir Line but Djemal Kucuck insisted on leaving a rearguard.
Consequently, a Turkish regiment created a series of redoubts
near the village of Rafah. Their presence directly threatened
the British railhead that had reached El Arish. Mounted elements
of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force were despatched to eliminate
the threat. The action at Rafah represents an assault on entrenched
positions with mounted infantry. British artillery were able
to use aircraft with wireless for spotting for the first time
in the Egypt-Palestine campaign. The Turks were supported by
German fighter bombers. A small Turkish relieving force attempted
to support the Turkish garrison during the course of the action.

Well, it's balanced, but not much fun. The Brits roll over the Turks, take every objective and practically force them off the western map edge before time runs out...and still they lose a minor due to last turn and one point.
Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tinny blasts on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us. --Walt Kelly
