Hard Attack Values -RS - K K Rossokolski - 01-21-2011 I seek advice on this for a series of scenarios on Khalkhin Gol aka Nomonhan. The Japanese relied greatly on infantry attacks on the Soviet tanks, mostly using molotov cocktails. Can anyone tell me what chance a 1939 Jap infantry platoon has of taking out a T-26 or BT? What about IJA engineers? Thanks in advance. RE: Hard Attack Values -RS - Hawk Kriegsman - 01-21-2011 Hello KKR, George Smithson did a large Khalkhin Gol scenario. The Japanese infanty has a hard attack of 2 while the engineers (I think) is 10. These values are more than engough to disrupt and damage T26 and BT7's (especially from the rear with armor facing on). T26s and BT7's can aslo be assaulted by the high assault factor Japanese with great effect. Thanx! Hawk RE: Hard Attack Values -RS - K K Rossokolski - 01-21-2011 Thanks mate. I once had a copy of that but alas lost it. I recall it was a skirmish type action prior to the main events, and was done before we had such exotica as Mongolia and Manchukuo.....which had a role to play in this most interesting event. I have the map about done...basically a river flowing through miles and miles of b*gger all, and the campaign itself can be divided into 4 or 5 separate scenarios, each depicting a high point of the action. The info you have given me answered my question nicely, thanks. RE: Hard Attack Values -RS - Hawk Kriegsman - 01-21-2011 Hello Rod, Actually the scenarios included all the exotica. You had to download a bunch of mod files from the old website first. Unfortunately the scenarios do not work in JTCS. Thanx! Hawk RE: Hard Attack Values -RS - Mike Abberton - 01-22-2011 Hawk and I played some of the existing Nomonhan scenarios a while back. As the Japanese player for those, I was surprised that the Japanese infantry heald their ground as well as they did, especially since there was not much cover around and very little supporting armor. IIRC, Hawk had generally had two choices, hold the tanks back and try relatively ineffective distance fire, or get in close and be subjected to close range attacks and assualts. If the tanks held back, the Japanese infantry could really get in and hurt the outnumbered, accompanying Soviet infantry. Also, the Japanese mortar units at mid range had just enough hard attack factor to add some disrupts, disables, and outright kills to be worth firing at the tanks, too. I think I lost most of those scenarios anyway, but I think they were relatively close for quite a while. And they were a lot of fun from what I remember. Mike |
