The area around the Cloth Hall at Ypres comes to mind.
I think VM is right. The damage to urban areas was created at an exponential rate compared to the clean up.

On the other hand, since most of WW1 traffic is foot, was RUBBLE even as big an impediment to units moving through the rear areas?
