Also, when doing an attack, you get an idea of success or not, so you can add another unit and your probable outcome changes in your favor, but not enough, you add another and it falls to way better for you, then you do the attack. One is not supposed to know what the outcome of the battle will most likely be prior to the attack. That should be left to a determination on the player's part, not handed to him by the puter.

There in TOAW III exists something as the attack planner, allowing one to manage his assaults and calculating the likely odds in numbers etc., but the fact is that I don't use it at all , depending more on my assessment of the combat readiness of the unit, the level of exhaustion, supply and readiness etc., the terrain and the weather on top of it all - besides the estimated results are sometimes far from the those achieved in reality; mostly it shows very discouraging prognostics regaring the overall chances of success and the casualty level. That does not diminish the game's greatness, if that wasn't for certain aspects of the command structure and handling of mobile warfare.

I also agree with what you said abut the level of detail - in TOAW III I like each unit and subunit being assembled from certain types of equipment with its distinctive capabilities and parameters - the number, state and condition of the men and equipment affects greatly the unit's likely performance.

Still not sure if to pursue that path ...

What's really good for a change?
