So to mitigate that, you can have both installed at once and play some games on the old version and some on the new as your opponents upgrade or the games end.

Here is how:
1) Copy your existing install (the Program Files directory *not* the My Documents directory)
2) Rename the copy to show it is the patched version (e.g. CMBS103)
3) Install the patch (make darn sure that you manually point to the <install path>CMBS103 directory
4) Play them both

However you need to pay attention to this one problem: Given the new location of the Game Files directory on Windows your new version of the game will be able to see the .ema files form the old version so when playing a game with the 1.03 patched version make sure you don't try to play any of the games from the old version.

It is yucky but doable.
