RE: WinSPMBT V3 NEWS!
will someone explain me whats so great with this new OP-feature? an example, for instance. youre talking about some dirty tricks:
"many gamey tricks will just disappear, never to be seen again."

so what are they?
i set op-fire of my scouts to 0 or 1, so they dont engage in any combat and dont reveal their position. thats all.

RE: WinSPMBT V3 NEWS!
Don't worry about that. To some players anything other then lining up in rows and shooting at each other is 'gaming the system'. I think what they were referring to is the practice of driving a truck along in front of your column to spring ambushes. I don't think this is gamey, since the Germans did it in North Africa, Poland, The Soviet Union, France and everywhere else they fought. Anyone that read "Panzer Commander" by Von Luck knoes that it was Standard Operating Procedure for the Germans to grab the fastest vehicle they had and stick it up front with a soldier or two in it. It is still done today. Not every army can afford dedicated scout vehicles. I'm skipping over the distinction between a Jeep, which is used a lot in the game for scouting, and a truck, which is just a jeep on Steroids.
Now we will be able to set the engagement range for armor different then that for soft skinned vehicles as well as Infantry. That is good in that it is more realistic, but it is NOT going to stop players from driving around with a truck (or jeep, which is just a puny truck) . And that truck/jeep has a chance to spot that size 5 Uber-panzer hidden behind the rose bush.
I like it because I set a lot of layered ambushes. I'll put out a unit to start the ambus, then have units to ambush the op forces that try to overrun or bypass the ambush. I have even been known to set the whole thingie inside a fire sack, with units set to zero, or turned off, so I can get some good kill shots during my fire phase. But you have to be careful about that one. It works best against opponents that like to z-key potential ambushes so as to trigger op fire and get he ambushers to expose their position. Those are the same guys who figure that since nothing shot at them, nothing is there. Guess again.

Of course. Young people have strength, speed and stamina, the old need to be devious, decietfull and sly to compensate.:whis:

I'm not ready for the team thingie yet, but if you will trust me to finish, then I could do a little mano a mano action. I have 2 NATO mid-70's going now, how about a Sino-Soviet battle? Late '69 or early 70's. I think Nixon and Kissenger screwed the pooch back then. China wanted to relax tensions with the USA because the Soviets had just kicked their arse in a border dispute. Henery the K. should have gotten a better deal. The Chi-com promised to back off on support of the cong. They lied. Nixon should have let the Army go ahead and run a Corps up to Ho-Ci Min city. With 7 Soviet divisions staring across an ice choled river at 4 Chi-com divisions, neither side would have had any interest in acting against an American thrust against the VietCong.
Helpiing China and the Soviet Union get along would have been like Churchill brokering a peace treaty between Hilter and Stalin, so Britian could fight Nazi Germany alone.
So times what passes for logic at foggy bottom boggles the mind.
What sort of Moroooon acts to stop Russian Communists and Chinese communists from killing each other?:bang:
A State Department Moroooon.
Disclaimer. This is a historical discussion, NOT a political one. It is a background story for a 'what if'' SP battle. In this case, the 'what if' is the US Department of State doing everything in it's power to encourage war between two of America's sworn enemies.

RE: WinSPMBT V3 NEWS!
Ah, yes the old "Youth and Skill vs Age and Trickery" argument.

Amur River skirmishing? Sounds good to me. Reminds me of an old SPI game I had years ago named THE EAST IS RED. I always ended up busting the big ones on the Chinese.:kill: Like I've said before "One man's WMD is another man's force multiplier" Wow! I just quoted myself.:smoke:

I just found my beat up copy of an old DIA published "Handbook on the Chinese Armed Forces" 1976. That shoud be good for me to research.

The Soviets would not have top of the line hardware either. Maybe add some Red units to simulate the Mongolian Army. Or not.

Which side would you like? I think it was in DEC 1969. That time or later would be good.

Also I have some Arty issues we need to discuss. We need a map too.

As far as the team game, I'm willing to wait if everyone else is.

cheers

Ok, the map is done. I tried to send it to your new e-mail address, but Lyco wouldn't believ that it existed, so that didn't work. I'll post it here until Lyco gets over it's hangup.
