Suggestions for good war movies

Two movies which I dislike because they are both inaccurate and a bit too propagandist for my tastes are SPR and Blackhawk down.

I have to ask what you found either inaccurate or propagandistic about "Blackhawk Down." Yes, it was shot like a music video, but beyond that ...

There are several reasons why BHD is not really accurate.

Basically the film portrays the US as good guys and the the Somalis as cartoon bad guys, failing to really explain why the UN/US was there, what was actually happening and how the actual events in the film came to be. It also ignores the fact that there were several other nations in the fight and it wasnt just the US fighting the Somalis.

The action sequences are fine except for that one scene where the hummer is racing down the streets and under fire from the roof tops and the gunner in the turret is blasting away like one of those old style actions movies, but thats just my own feeling.

The film itself leaves out several larger questions, issues and doesn't really show how much of a screw up the mission was and why the whole city came out to get them.

I like it for the action sequences, but not for the bigger picture it ignores.

This gives a good idea of what it really happend, there are some others out there but I cant find them at this time.

Good, that You are mentioning that. What is your opinion on Hamburger Hill? I have seen an old trailer on YouTube and it looked interesting. Is it worth to see it?

I can recommend Hamburger Hill. Realistic touch and no propanganda crap IIRC, I last watched it like 10 years ago......

I agree with Klanx that Dr Strangelove is a brilliant movie! ....I also had the best laugh I ever had with a movie when the Doomsday Machine is tiggered in the end and Dr. Merkwürdigliebe no longer can control his right arm from doing a nazi salute.....I may have a strange sense of humor but I ALMOST pissed my pants :happy:

HH came out in the 80s and is definitely touched by that decade and its approach to Vietnam films but its definitely worth watching, the scenes showing the guys fighting their way up the muddy hill are pretty intense and not everyone lives.

Also famous for the lines sampled in rap songs from the scene with the girls.

I nearly forgot to ask about the movies by Clint Eastwood - Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima ( I hope I wrote it correct). What are your opinions on that? Thanks in advance for the answers.
